As part of our mission we offer educational outreach programs to our community year round for individuals of all ages and abilities.

Artists in the Schools: This program brings professional artists in a variety of disciplines into the Athens County local schools. The program is designed to provide authentic art experiences for children and introduce new teaching tools for teachers.  One way this is accomplished is through residencies where, under the instruction of an artist, students may create things such as murals, large scale sculptural artworks or other various works of art they may not have opportunity to experience under the year's regular curriculum. The focus is to serve underfunded schools in the arts, as well as provide new ways for students to experience the arts.  The Dairy Barn is also entering a second academic year of partnership with Project L.A.U.N.C.H., a five year grant funded project that brings different organizations together to promote wellness for young children from birth to age eight by addressing the physical, emotional, social, cognitive and behavioral aspects of their development.  The Dairy Barn's role in this project is to send artists to elementary schools in our four county area over the academic year to provide one week of arts programming for the after-care students at each school.  For more information on Project L.A.U.N.C.H. click here. or

Classes and Workshops: We offer on-site classes and workshops for adults and children taught by professional artists and art educators in the Athens area. Classes offered this fall and winter will include drawing and painting, jewelry making, hand-building and wheel-throwing ceramics.
Classes will return in October 2011.

Gallery Tours and Educational Art Activities: Docented tours and gallery activities are available for all Dairy Barn exhibitions. Tours average 30-45 minutes and can be followed by a 45-60 minute art activity related to the exhibition. Tours can be arranged by contacting the education director at least two weeks in advance of the tour.  For Academic Content Standards met by these tours, CLICK HERE. Tour fees which include an activity are $1.50 per participant. Tour fees for non-school groups are $3.00 for groups over 10.
